How It All Started
“It is this element of cinema which really inspires me. It is that you have control
over your story"
Vanij Choksi is an
eighteen year old aspiring filmmaker and cinephile. Although born and raised in
Mumbai, the heart of the Bollywood industry, his passion lies elsewhere. What
probably started off as generic movie-buff behaviour led him to the Indian
filmmaker, Satyajit Ray’s renowned gem; Pather Panchalli. It is this
particular film that made Vanij realize his true calling; world cinema.
Having had a lot of acting
experience in school, he has already made a short film with his college
theatrical production team. He is currently working on a project and is
simultaneously writing another short film which is a critique on Indian
problems and issues. It is to come out in the first week of February. When not
watching or writing films, Vanij like to review critically acclaimed films. The
list includes Pulp Fiction, Jojo Rabbit and Jallikattu to name a
few. One can find the many works of old filmmakers;
Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino and
Satyajit Ray and the relatively newer ones; David Fincher, ReemaDas and
Konkona Sen Sharma alike.
