Finally getting to review a new release. Lot to say about this movie but first things first, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is a very heart-warming and entertaining film. Having said that this movie is not without its blemishes. I felt that this movie was not very well researched and apparently it's not very accurate either. I think they've done a dissatisfaction to Gunjan Saxena's piloting skills. The movie's focus is not based on her ability as a pilot but her growth so this movie feels more like a coming-of-age film than a biopic. I've always felt that moving the story forward through song and dance is just lazy writing on the screenwriters part as he technically outsources his work. Having said that, I feel that Gunjan's first flight as a pilot should not have been part of a montage in a song. It deserved a scene in itself. Also a few cinematic errors here and there are scattered around.
Overall, it's a very empowering film and has a lot of great moments. Jhanvi Kapoor has done a good job although she failed to emulate Gunjan Saxena in a few moments but nevertheless she was much much better than I expected. Pankaj Tripathi, as imagined, is the unsung hero of this film. All in all, a very entertaining watch. I would recommend it.
